Buffalo Trace’s Eagle Rare bourbon has garnered quite a few accolades, including a number of gold medals from several noteworthy liquor organizations. This new edition, however, is poised to put all the rest to shame. Allow us to introduce the Double Eagle Very Rare Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey.

The oldest release of the line, this 20-year-old bourbon is three years older than its closest sibling — which is a fairly large jump. And that’s resulted in a shockingly smooth and well-balanced spirit, marked by notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and caramel with an even oakier finish. Of course, to celebrate all their hard work, the brand also spent two years making the packaging, which includes a special crystal decanter, complete with dual gorgeous sculpted eagles (one on the stopper at the top and one inside the bottle). Only 299 of these will ever be made and at a price of $2,000 each, no less — which makes this rarified bourbon whiskey all the more special.

Purchase: $2,000
