Architecture is an artform — a visual amalgamation of the designer’s lustful pursuit of perfection, and an illustration of material character. As such, one would hardly recognize a common vehicle bathing area as a work of impeccable craftsmanship — but that’s not the case for Black Star, a unique washroom that’s been handcrafted by GretaProject in Moskva, Russia.

The Black Star Car Wash was formulated and devised in such a way that emotion, inspiration, and creativity could mesh with the mundane, every-day act of vehicle cleaning. Built in the gritty, dark, and daunting underground of a mid-city facility, GretaProject has devised a way to expand the space both visually and architecturally, introducing black graphite detailing, calligraphy, and a number of geometric light installations. Lateral patterns and Black Star branding adorn the surfaces of the dwelling, while 45-degree linear lamps and detailed signage draw the eyes of visitors within an intended offset. An equally mesmerizing cafe spans the interior wall of the space, utilizing sophisticated geometry and lavish furniture to escape mediocrity.
