Ferrari’s F40 is inarguably one of their most iconic and legendary vehicles, but it almost didn’t happen. However, a strange turn of events led to its production and participation in a wealth of racing series. This particular example, a 1987 Ferrari F40 LM prototype, is one of the vehicles that made it all possible. And now it could be yours.

Built to capitalize on Ferrari’s Group B rally project — the 288 GTO Evoluzione — following the untimely shutdown of the racing class, the F40 was actually never intended to race despite it being about as stripped-down as a road car can get. But then French Ferrari importer, Charles Pozzi, got ahold of it — which resulted in the beefed-up 700+bhp pre-production factory prototype you see before you. What’s even more interesting, however, is that this specific car actually went on to participate in two Le Mans endurance races and won the 1995 Anderstorp 4 Hours. This extremely unique prototype-turned-racer can be yours if you can afford the expected $5,000,000-$6,000,000 price tag.

Purchase: $5,000,000+
