The last half of the century has blessed the automotive market with a number of iconic vehicles, and there’s no doubt that Audi stands among the scintillating list as one of the most vivacious manufacturers around. Their 1984 Sport Quattro, specifically, was a no-holds-barred Group B rally platform that helped Audi gain the voluminous prestige it carries today.

As one of only 161 road-faring examples to ever be built, this impeccably kept 1984 Audi Sport Quattro has been meticulously maintained throughout its life, boasting a remarkably low 25,000-mile odometer reading and a signature red colorway that looks as if it’s brand new. However, a caveat of the car’s production cycle was an exclusive release throughout Europe, making American acquisition extremely rare. This specific platform was purchased and imported from Europe by Robert Fergus, a prominent racing privateer from the midwest who would add the Audi to his prestigious automotive collection — eventually becoming one of his most beloved track-borne race cars. Amidst significant mechanical upkeep and a slew of road rally-oriented upgrades, the car has remained within the care of its most recent owner for 18 years — and now, it’s being listed for auction via Gooding & Co for an expected $450,000.

Purchase: $450,000
