This incredibly unique Airbnb space sits at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains near Knoxville, Tennessee. The former WWII troop train turned boutique hotel started its life as a kitchen car for the U.S. Army in 1942, hauling soldiers to the east coast to board ships bound for the European theater.

After a short stint as a mobile command car for Strategic Air Command during the Cold War in the 1970s, the kitchen car sat in storage waiting for a retired Lt. Colonel to purchase it at auction in 2005. The new owners spent eight months turning the train car into the quintessential tiny home with Americana style, even adding modern conveniences like WiFi for streaming TV. The private car can accommodate four adults and features a massive claw foot tub, queen-size Murphy bed, queen-size pull out sofa bed, Smeg kitchen appliances, and all the cookware a discerning chef could ever need. The former troop transport rests on six acres of land with access to a fish pond and fire pit suited perfectly for a relaxing weekend with the property’s five friendly dogs. You can book your next weekend adventure today for as low as $131 per night.

Purchase: $131+
