The early 2000s held a lot of promise for the tech industry, which, at the time, was focused on pumping out the thinnest foldable smartphone they could produce. Looking back, it might not have been the most graceful period for a number of the period’s technological giants — namely Motorola, who’s blocky offerings were still in their infancy. But amidst all the chaos, there was one Motorola product that would stand the test of time — the Moto RAZR — a slim, functional, folding handheld device that was primed to ignite the world of mobile phone manufacturing for years to come.

After years of waiting (and various attempts to resurrect the platform), the company is reportedly planning to revive the ever-popular RAZR — but this time, Motorola hopes to enhance the throwback handheld by dressing it in the most advanced, up-to-date technology, including a flexible clamshell screen that will utilize a composition similar to Samsung’s folding technology from late last year. Lenovo, the parent company of Motorola, is looking to partner with Verizon for an exclusive U.S. iteration of the phone, and while there aren’t any significant details on the screen size, 5G capabilities, or other smart features, it’s safe to say that the nostalgia-meter for anyone over the age of 23 will reach unprecedented levels. A reported price point of $1,500 might sway would-be buyers away from Motorola’s offering, but with 200,000 units slated to be manufactured and released (as early as February), the company is confident that the phone will hold its own in the current market.
