BMW Individual M850i Night Sky

Emerging triumphantly after a 20-year hiatus, BMW’s 8 Series Coupe is already a drool-worthy sports car that pumps out an impressive 523 horsepower at its lowest trim level. But the brand’s Individual in-house customizing firm has upped the ante into the stars, literally, with their M850i xDrive Coupe Night Sky.

Unveiled to coincide with the Quadrantids meteor shower, which just took place from Jan 3-4, this one-off bespoke vehicle isn’t mechanically different from its brethren (meaning it does 0-60 in 3.6 seconds thanks to a highly-refined V8 engine). But it does have some stellar design elements, pun intended. For starters, accents across the interior — including the center console, start/stop button, door sills, and gear selector — are made from actual meteorites. To mimic the look of these extraterrestrial rocks, external bits have been machined to replicate the Widmanstätten pattern, the unique crosshatching found on the surface of these meteorites — including the side view mirrors, air intakes, front splitter, and even the brake discs. As if that’s not enough, they even went so far as to 3D print aluminum brake calipers that are 30% lighter than those made with traditional methods. To round the whole thing off, the interior center console features a unique LED panel that resembles the constellations in the night sky. This marvelous vehicle is truly out of this world.
