We saw some pretty amazing collaborations last year, but Q1 of 2019 has already exceeded expectations when it comes to awe-inspiring partnerships. Outdoor giant The North Face and BMW’s subsidiary Designworks have blown the cover on their upcoming Futurlight Camper, an innovative new take on the future of protective outdoor dwellings.
Following The North Face’s announcement of a revolutionary new nanospinning technology (and the resultant fabric) dubbed “FUTURELIGHT,” the brand revealed that its hyper-advanced waterproof material was a primary component of their conceptual outdoor living space, the Futurelight Camper. The unique trailer was heavily inspired by the 2008 BMW GINA Light Visionary Model, which utilized a geodesic outer shell that was covered in a flexible fabric. Instead of the traditional fabric used on the GINA, BMW and The North Face have introduced FUTURELIGHT to show that the highly porous (but also, air permeable) material isn’t isolated to mundane use in apparel and outerwear, ushering in a new era of multi-tier applications. Consumers can expect to see this new technology in The North Face’s Fall line for 2019.
