Thailand is an enigma in its most simple form — home to lush forests, serene countryside suburban developments, and intricate cities that spurn toward progressive modernity — but also, a number of buildings that retain architectural influence from years past. In an effort to straddle both realms, Bangkok’s Anonym Architects have created the bAAn Home, a striking rendition that combines prominent design principles with a traditional, minimalist layout.
The bAAn Home was originally created as a communal space, utilizing a large, open diagram that caters to extended familial socialization. Two separate residences adorned in a black aluminum exterior lining, wood paneling, and angular concrete wrap around a centralized courtyard and swimming area, providing panoramic views of the surrounding forestry. A lush green garden is visible from the home’s many windows, providing a less congested visual divide between the two spaces. The interior of the home is dressed in an attractive mixture of modern wood, concrete, and metal, giving the minimalist space an expansive but comfortable feel.
