Few, if any SUVs are quite as iconic and American as the Willys Jeep — originally manufactured for military use but eventually sold to the general public. What you might not know, however, is that not all Willys Jeeps were actually made in the USA. Case in point, an ultra-rare 1959 Mitsubishi SJ3B-J3 is hitting the auction block during this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon.

This post-war 4×4 was actually built on Japanese soil. However, Mitsubishi did enlist help from the U.S. Army to make sure it was put together properly. But this particular example is even more special, as its single-digit registration plate suggest it was one of the earliest to roll off the factory floor. Powered by a 134-cubic-inch Hurricane 4 (JH4) engine, this civilian model boasts a beautiful patina that pairs perfectly with its spot-on classic looks. Estimated to go for $17,000-$23,000, this is your chance to own a super-unique piece of automotive history.

Purchase: $17,000+
