Ford is relatively slow to unveil any sort of drastic upgrade to their vehicles, whether that be their significantly bolstered truck, car, or SUV lineups — but this year, they’ve decided to go all out with the unveiling of the new 2020 Ford Explorer ST. Sporting one of the most dramatic design overhauls to date, the full-size performance offering has certainly turned quite a few heads since its announcement — and we can definitely see why.

The ST has received more than just an aesthetic overhaul, bringing it in line with Lincoln’s competitive Aviator offering and boasting a new rear-wheel drivetrain that harkens back to the Explorer’s old-school roots. A 400-horsepower, 3-liter EcoBoost V6 is used to power the immaculate monster, while a mishmash of chassis upgrades pull the most prominent design elements from brands like Land Rover and BMW to create the ultimate in driving performance and application. Tighter steering and a stiffened suspension come courtesy of selectable drive modes, while 21-inch wheels, high-performance brakes, and a 10-speed automatic transmission round out the handsome and capable SUV. Two separate options will be available for the vehicle — an ST Street Pack and an ST Track Pack — both of which will release alongside the Ford Explorer at the end of 2019.
