Since its release back in 2016, BMW’s flagship sedan, the 7 Series, has remained largely the same — with only minor changes over the last couple of years. For 2020, however, the luxury four-door has gotten a complete and total overhaul, both in regards to performance and (most obviously) appearance.

The biggest and most noteworthy alteration to the 7 Series’ appearance is the front-end grille, which looks to be lifted directly from the x7 SUV. Clocking in at 40% larger than the grille on last year’s model, that grille does serve a purpose: to give better airflow to the improved V8 engine and newly available PHEV hybrid powertrain — the former getting 80 more ponies and 74 more foot-pounds of torque (ranking it at 523HP and 553 lb-ft, respectively), and the latter producing a combined 389 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. Along with a renewed suite of up-to-date tech in the cabin, this big-time Series 7 update will be available at dealerships as early as April.
