2019 Porsche 911 Speedster

Rare is the occasion in which we see a concept car go into production. But it’s even rarer to see one that’s actually close in its construction to its prototype. Perhaps never, however, have we seen one quite as stunningly remarkable as the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster.

Based on the 70th-anniversary concept of the same name, this limited-edition production run of 1,948 harkens back to the original Porsche 356 from 1948. And, like the 356, the 911 Speedster’s breathtaking exterior betrays some impressive hidden details. For instance, it boasts a carbon fiber-constructed hood, trunk, and fenders. It also includes a lightweight Tonneau cover, fitted by Tenax buttons, in place of a traditional soft top. This unique build also features a GT exhaust system with titanium tailpipes, a six-speed manual gearbox, and — the pièce de résistance — a naturally-aspirated flat-six engine capable of 500 horsepower. There’s no word yet on pricing but it’s safe to assume the price tag will match the exclusivity and impressive list of features. That is to say, it will likely cost a small fortune and be worth every penny.
