Keeping up with the Jones’ is a phrase that Mercedes-Benz usually hears in reference to others imitating their award winning style as they usually find themselves at the top of any list drawing comparisons to any model. As trends have changed to focus more on high performance cars that are capable of hauling more passengers and cargo, the 2019 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupes are the direct responses to this changing direction from the German luxury manufacturer.
Appearing to be based on the newly announced CLS with the addition of an extended roof line ending in a hatchback style trunk lid, the AMG GT 4-Door is a direct response to the hugely successful Porsche Panamera. Inside, seating for 4 full grown adults sets the AMG GT apart from other offerings for Mercedes performance line as being the only model capable of seating four. Under the hood, variants of the 4.0-Liter biturbo V8 push up to 630 hp and 664 lb•ft of torque, propelling the family sedan from 0-60 in 3.1-seconds, and a drift mode allows for the power to the wheels to be let loose when the need arises. Currently all options are slated to utilize the 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system and the AMG 9 speed transmission, but US models are not set to land until early 2019, so there may be additional alternatives developed by that time.
