In order to build a proper expedition rig, you need two things: a functional living space and a vehicle that can handle difficult terrain. But to say that Lance Camper’s ‘Altimeter’ has both of those things in spades is perhaps not giving this mobile basecamp enough credit, because it might be more apt to call this overlander a moving castle.
The base vehicle of this impressive rig is a Ford F-350 Super Duty pickup equipped with a monstrous 6.7L Powerstroke V8 diesel engine. And while that itself would be enough to handle most off-road adventures, they also called on the folks at ICON for a Vehicle Dynamics Stage 5 suspension system — which also gives it a 2.5-inch lift. To combat the added weight of its 855S Truck Camper and higher center of gravity, they also gave it Hellwig front and rear sway bars and air springs. Of course, the camper itself (the 2nd part of the equation) is also fully-equipped with room enough for four, integrated LED lighting, a kitchen, air conditioning, and so much more. For now, this is a one-of-a-kind overlanding monolith that isn’t up for sale, but you could feasibly put one together for yourself for around $84,000 in total.
