2019 BMW R 1250 GS Adventure Motorcycle

One of the brand’s best-selling models and perhaps one of the greatest adventure motorcycles ever built, the BMW R 1250 GS has been a staple of off-grid exploration about as long as it’s existed. And while it has seen its share of upgrades over the years, the new 2019 release boasts some of the biggest and most impressive enhancements ever.

The biggest change can be found in the engine, which is being increased in size from 1,170cc to 1,254cc — though it will still retain its signature flat-twin boxer functionality. The beefed-up engine also benefits from the brand’s ShiftCam Technology that improves its efficiency, reduces emissions, and improves its power and smoothness at any speed. Those changes also result in a better horsepower rating of 136 (up from 125) and a torque rating of over 105 foot-pounds (up from 92). A boost in power isn’t the only new addition — the adventure bike also gets some new rider assist technologies, like Automatic Stability Control and Hill Start Control, as well as old standards such as ABS, dynamic brakes, and dynamic traction control. No word yet on price, but this much-improved all-terrain bike should start selling within the year.
