The Pinecone Treehouse By O2 Treehouse

There are a million treehouse homes out there, all utilizing different designs and layouts that make each one subtly unique. Architect and designer Dustin Feider of O2 Treehouse wanted to set his latest project apart from the crowd with an entirely refreshing take on traditional tree-borne dwellings — and now, the space is looking for a new owner.

The Pinecone Treehouse is aptly named, resembling the small woodland cone — a trademark of forested areas around the world and the primary point of inspiration for the suspended living space. The home was constructed in Oakland, where its exterior facade plays host to sourced California Redwood and a generous amount of steel reinforcement. Glazed panels protrude from the base structure, providing a textured exterior resemblant of the scales on a pinecone as it expands to release seedlings in the dry, warm season. Symmetrical windows adorn the geodesic dome from top to bottom, allowing for an abstract, kaleidoscopic view of the surrounding area. The minimalist interior comes outfitted with a small sleeping area, an indoor/outdoor space with a unique shower integrated into a tree trunk, and a wooden ladder-bridge that connects both the dwelling and bathing spaces.
