It’s not often that you see a duo of immaculate one-off Corvette Sting Rays from the golden age of Chevy. But the Mecum Kissimmee auction in 2019 has procured two such rides, owned by a pair of the most influential figures in the automotive world.

The cars, belonging to Harley J. Earl and Bill Mitchell of General Motors’ Art & Color fame, are set to be auctioned off as a single lot. The 1963 convertible was originally gifted to Earl by GM Design, and the immaculate 1964 coupe, which belonged to Bill Mitchell, was an exclusive model from the Bob McDorman Collection of special GM Design Corvettes. The convertible features special options that were prototypical for the time, ranging from an unreleased hood, exterior emblems, interior control knobs, and 4-wheel disc brakes that wouldn’t be included on the Corvette until 1965. An exclusive side-exiting exhaust system and chromed channels were also included, only to be seen on four other Corvettes over the history of the car. The original 327 small-block engine has since been replaced with a fully carbureted version, with the addition of an AC system to battle the Florida heat. The 1964 V8, 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic coupe belonging to Bill Mitchell was also a build ahead of its time — utilizing an Astro Ventilation system that would later be introduced in Chevy’s 1968 models, and a popular contemporary three-light tail array. Both of the vehicles sport a Blue Metallic paint job that sets them apart from the crowd, as well as perfectly kept padded leather interior upholstery, color-matched seatbelts, and a unique, brushed aluminum shifter.
