Traditional smartphones may be one of those things that you can’t go without in your daily life, but not all of them are dependable when you’re going to the farthest reaches of the world. Thuraya is hoping to change that with the first Android-compatible satellite smartphone called the X5-Touch.

The X5 pulls a staggering amount of capability from modern smartphones, introducing LTE, GSM, and satellite communication in an “always on” environment. The phone uses a dual SIM setup that provides a seamless connection via terrestrial networks when you’re in range and utilizes satellite networks when you aren’t. The smartphone boasts coverage in over 160 countries and features a 5.2-inch full-HD LCD touchscreen, expandable memory slots, WiFi compatibility, Gorilla Glass cornering, and an IP67 waterproof rating. Android 7.1.2 comes standard with the satellite phone and allows you to access all of your favorite apps while you’re stranded at sea, lost in the wilderness, or cruising to your local deli.
