Foster + Partners has participated in some high-profile projects this year, including the conceptual Tulip Tower in London, York University Station in Toronto, and a slew of Apple-related architectural work. Their newest addition to the Apple Park in Cupertino, California is yet another exercise in beautiful, futuristic design.

The Steve Jobs Theater was initially built as a place for friends and colleagues to gather, socialize, and experience the Cupertino Apple Park, but over time, the theater has taken on other responsibilities. The architectural wonder is housed amidst a cluster of dense pine trees and features a lens-shaped roof set atop a 135-foot-diameter glass cylinder that allows 360-degree views of the surrounding area. The building’s four-layer glass support system holds up the world’s largest carbon fiber roof, which weighs approximately 80.7 tons and is comprised of 44 radial panels — all of which were assembled and craned onto the foundation in a single go. It houses a glass elevator with helical guide rails that allow individuals to traverse the multi-story building and two sculpted stone stairways for those with an affinity for a slower ascent.
