Architecture is a unifying art, connecting individuals through a plethora of different design, construction, and mathematical disciplines. Portland-based architectural firm Skylab has realized this through one of their latest projects, the Owl Creek Residence, which was designed to show that physical space is more than an amalgamation of materials — it can deepen the relationship between individuals and their surroundings.

This beautiful, abstract 4,200-square-foot home in the heart of Snowmass, Colorado is anchored to the mountain as a result of original site complications. And to minimize separation from the surrounding landscape, the interior was constructed with a selection of multi-family and communal areas that give way to a bevy of natural light, leading lines, and open-ended design elements that promote social interaction. Timber, concrete, metal, and glass comprise the living areas of the home, which are built in an intentional open layout. The triangular steel frame of the residence was built with car decking to minimize costs, and Skylab even added a sloped roof to combat the mass of water and snow the house endures during the winter months.
