The Titanic II

The British luxury liner RMS Titanic is without a doubt the most famous ship ever built — and sunk — in modern memory. Its popularity led to the highest grossing film of all time in 1997 and a theme song that became an international hit, reaching number one in 30 countries. The Titanic’s unwavering popularity and potential financial viability has not been lost on Clive Palmer, an Australian businessman who made his fortune in iron, nickel, and coal holdings — Palmer has announced that he will fund the production of the next iteration of the liner, which is expected to embark on its maiden voyage from Dubai to New York in 2022.

The Titanic II is designed to be a true-to-form replica of the original vessel, with obvious updates to its navigation technology and hull construction to adhere to modern passenger cruiseliner standards. Outside of that, Palmer promises his liner will act as a time machine to a bygone era — although line for selfies on the ship’s bow will feel unfortunately modern.
