Video games have come a long way from blocky pixels and brick box gaming consoles, but there’s still work to do. Microsoft is enhancing the gaming experience with the Project xCloud, a game-streaming technology allowing gamers to play on a device of their choice.

Whether you prefer immersing yourself in your favorite digital worlds with a console or PC, Project xCloud will give you the freedom to make that choice. If you’re a mobile-only gamer, you’ll have access to a plethora of worlds, characters, and stories previously unavailable to you. There are over 3,000 games currently available on Xbox One with endless amounts coming in the future, and all of them will be accessible across all devices on Project xCloud. Microsoft is currently doing test runs on mobile phones and tablets paired with a Bluetooth Wireless Xbox controller. They are also creating a game-specific touch input overlay for players who don’t prefer controllers. Compatibility with existing and future Xbox games will be enabled with a custom blade hardware capable of hosting the component parts of various Xbox One consoles and the accompanying infrastructure. There isn’t an official release date yet, but public tests are set to start next year.
