Whenever people think of classic Aston Martin luxury vehicles, inevitably the DB series comes to mind. Of course, a big reason behind that is because James Bond famously drove a DB5 in Goldfinger, as well as a number of the character’s other spy flicks. And while classic examples of that car are plenty rare, they have a predecessor that’s even rarer — the Aston Martin Lagonda Rapide. And now, a 1962 year model is headed to auction.

Originally built in 1961, the Lagonda Rapide boasted the same 4.0-liter straight-six engine that would later be used in the DB5 — giving this sedan a surprising amount of power. But that performance was also elevated by the build quality of the vehicle, as this luxury four-door was made entirely by hand. And what’s even more impressive is that this one, which is in impeccable condition, is one of just 55 ever built. In fact, it’s said that there are only 48 still surviving today. And that makes this an exceedingly rare collectors car sure to sell for a pretty penny. It will hit the auction block at RM Sotheby’s Paris auction next year.
