This stunning asymmetric steel structure overlooks the coastal vegetation that borders New Zealand’s Apollo Bay. The architects at Dock4 were purposeful in keeping a strong visual connection to the breathtaking landscape, designing a home with an array of sheltered platforms that blur the distinction between indoor and outdoor space. The living space is minimalist and clean with a compelling mixture of light-colored wood finishes, contrasting perfectly the building’s dark facade and long lines.

The focal point of the main living area is the matte black fireplace with old word design that’s suspended from the ceiling just a few feet off the floor, momentarily stealing attention from the expansive tree-lined view of distant hills just across the rippling water. Mid-century furniture with splashes of modern design complete the split-level great room, which is accentuated by large sliding doors that open the home to the waterfront view.
