Jeep is definitely most well-known for making superb off-road-ready 4×4 SUVs. In fact, they’re so good at it that people seem to have forgotten they once built a pickup truck. Troy and Tony at RoamR haven’t forgotten it, though. Quite the opposite, actually, as they’ve taken one, a 1974 J20 Gladiator, and turned it into what might be the ultimate overlanding pickup truck — and they’ve called it the ‘Tomahawk.’
What’s really great about this build, for starters, is that it still has the original AMC 401 V8 engine — though it’s been given a complete overhaul and some new accessories like a new Holley Terminator EFI system and a Be Cool radiator and fan. To make her more maneuverable on the trails, they also chopped a whopping 14″ off the back, equipped her with Metalcloak shocks, and added on new Yukon gears and lockers to the stock axles. In regards to overlanding accouterments, they equipped this beast with a Leitner active cargo system — complete with a Freespirit Recreation rooftop tent — and a Rhino-Rack over the cab. Even the truck bed itself has a DECKED organizational cargo system for top-tier organization of all your other goodies. Needless to say, the stunning ‘Tomahawk’ is ready for the long haul.
