All things considered, the Yamaha TR1 was not actually a bad-looking off-the-lot bike. But, if there’s anything a custom motorcycle shop needs to do to prove their prowess, it’s taking an already solid bike and making it better than anyone previously thought possible. Or at least that’s what happened with the ‘981’ from Budapest-headquartered Neuga Motorcycles.

Honestly, they could have taken a few bits off here and there and painted the whole thing black, and it would probably be excellent. These Hungarians, however, have done a great deal more than that to turn this bike into an elevated piece of functional art. For starters, they completely refurbished the engine — including swapping out most of the smaller moving parts and all the gaskets and rings for fresh new ones. They also swapped in and customized a Yamaha R1 front end and upgraded the cockpit. The highlight of this bike, however, has to be the gorgeous new saddle that flows almost seamlessly into the gas tank, making for a very natural, curvy appearance to this otherwise inorganic machine. Brilliant work, Neuga.
