We thought it was only a matter of time before we saw the first all-electric pony car. The thing is, we were certain it was going to come from a U.S. brand — with pony cars being a remarkably American thing. Turns out, however, the French have beat us to the punch courtesy of Peugeot’s e-Legend Electric Concept.

They say this concept sports coupe is based on the brand’s classic 504, but this bad boy’s styling certainly screams Mustang-killer to us — and that’s not a bad thing at all. It helps, too, that the power plant within promises a good deal of performance, to the tune of 456 horsepower and a gargantuan 590 foot-pounds of torque. It’s also said to do 0-62 in under four seconds and has a top speed of 137 mph. Perhaps most impressive, however, is that Peugeot is promising a range of 373 miles per charge (with 311 possible in just 25 minutes of charging). If this is the future of sports cars, we are ready and waiting.
