Most active apparel is produced using synthetic polymer materials made using petroleum, sapping massive amounts of energy from our planet and producing a large sum of greenhouse gases. Concern for this critical issue led to the collaboration of quality ski apparel company Goldwin and Spiber Inc, a biomaterials organization. Together, they’ve created a sustainable powder fresh ski jacket prototype.

Focusing on functionality and environmental friendliness, synthetic spider silk was used to make the winter-ready ski jacket prototype. Using the revolutionary ‘Q/QMONOS’ synthetic spider silk, this collaborative effort has the potential to change the game in the world of sportswear production, which is why it’s been nominated for the prestigious Beazley’s Designs of the Year Award. Currently, the ‘Q/QMONOS’ synthetic protein fiber is undergoing rigorous testing to ensure superior quality. Winners of the Beazley’s Designs of the Year Award will be announced in November.
