Casa R Chilean Cabin

Located deep in the forested region of Vilches, Chile, a small cabin stands resolute. Compact but durable — and beautifully constructed — it stands ready to endure the vicissitudes of an often mercurial environment. The Casa R cabin from TuCroquis is a beautiful brutalist haven in a truly awe-inspiring region.

Designed by Felipe Lagos, the Casa R cabin is built as a tranquil and remote refuge that can endure the harshest of conditions, from sweltering heat to brutal cold. The cabin features a “chiflonera,” commonplace among Patagonian homes, which is a buffer zone between the interior and exterior of the home which helps to rebuff cold and hot temperatures. Located among beautiful natural attractions — like the Pehuenche Border Crossing Trail and the Maule Lagoon — the location is a hiker and camper’s dream come true. With 96 meters-squared of space, this minimalist commode is compact, but everything you’ll need for a humbly beautiful escape.
