While most folks associate Steve McQueen with Triumph motorcycles — likely due, in large part, to his riding one in the film, The Great Escape — the truth is that Indian was actually his favorite motorcycle brand. Or at least that’s what his wife, Barbi, claimed (and the dozens he owned over the years appear to back up said claim). In any case, any motor vehicle owned and ridden by the King of Cool is a noteworthy one, which is why we’re so excited to bring you this 1936 Indian Chief that’s up for sale.

As it turns out, when McQueen lived in Greenwich Village, New York, his first motorcycle was an Indian. This particular example is not that specific bike, but it does come with a certificate of authenticity proving it was once the property of the man himself. And, in the words of Duncan Hamilton ROFCO (the firm selling the bike), “this is a rare opportunity to own what is perhaps the most iconic American motorcycle owned and ridden by the most iconic American actor.” You’ll have to get in contact with them to get an idea of the price, however.
