We can all thank the writers of Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation for inspiring Alexa’s futuristic voice-controlled capabilities. In the four short years since Amazon announced Alexa alongside the Echo, the list of convenient capabilities has expanded far beyond a way to help you buy more things on Amazon — moving into smart hardware focused on making everyday life easier.

This month, Amazon announced more than a dozen new pieces of hardware designed to bring Alexa functionality into your home and even your car. We’re pretty excited for the new launch of products that will add convenience to your life — here’s six of our favorite new release from Amazon’s ever-expanding line of Alexa-enabled smart devices.

Amazon Smart Plug

The easiest way to add voice control and scheduling to any outlet, Amazon’s smart plug helps you turn on, off, or schedule any wall-powered appliance. The device is simple to set up and use with the Alexa app and does not require a smart home hub.

Amazon Echo Auto

Take Alexa for a ride and use your voice to play music, ask for directions, open the garage, find a nearby gas station, make calls, and 50,000 other helpful tasks. The Echo Auto connects to Alexa using your smartphone and plays through your car’s speakers. Built with eight microphones designed for in-car acoustics, Alexa won’t have any problem hearing you over road noise, music, or your air conditioning.

Purchase: $25

Amazon Echo Input

The Echo Input is a smart and simple way to add Alexa to every external speaker. The slim and low profile device connects via 3.5 mm audio cable or Bluetooth. Set timers, stream music, add items to your to-do list, check the weather, and control compatible smart home devices.

Purchase: $35

Amazon Echo Sub

This powerful speaker for your Echo delivers 100W of deep bass through a 6” subwoofer. Simple to set up and use with the Alexa app, the Echo Sub pairs with one Echo or Echo plus for room-filling sound. You can even pair two Echo devices for a stereo experience.

Purchase: $130

Amazon Echo Link

Amazon’s high-end audio solution to add Alexa functionality and streaming to your existing stereo and home theatre systems. The minimalist design features a single volume control on a clean black box. For non-powered speakers, the Echo Link Amp will ship early next year with a 60W two-channel amplifier with digital and analog inputs and outputs.

Purchase: $200

Amazon Fire TV Recast

An over-the-air DVR that records two shows at once with no monthly fees. Simply connect the Fire TV Recast to your HD antenna to start recording up to 75 hours of HD programming. With 500GB of storage, you can rewatch live sports, local news, and all of your favorite shows at your convenience.
