Without the emergence of the 356, it’s difficult to know if Porsche would have become even a fraction of the automotive giant they are today. And if you can get your hands on any version of that legendary sports car, you can count yourself lucky — even if its this barn-found 356 A 1600 ‘Super’ Speedster (with Reutter coachwork) that has surely seen better days.
While we love the idea of getting behind the wheel of a perfectly-restored classic, there’s still something ever-so-tempting about the prospect of transforming a rusted old wreck into something road-ready. Sure, this one is definitely in bad condition, but it still has an amazing amount of original parts — from its four-cylinder engine to its original upholstery, a stash of parts, tools, and original documents (of which all are included with the sale). The thing is, while a fixer-upper such as this one is definitely going to go for a lot cheaper than a restored version, it will still likely fetch a high price that will scare off all but the most dedicated Porsche aficionados at the RM Sotheby’s auction later this year.
