With the increased popularity of classic SUV restorations, everyone is trying to get in on the action – often just slapping a new coat of paint on an old beater. But the most impressive restomodded 4×4 off-roaders take a lot more time, dedication, and an eye for detail – three things exemplified in this 1979 International Scout by Velocity Restorations.
Let’s start with the numbers, as they certainly deserve attention: 430 horsepower is produced by this SUV’s beastly 6.2L 376ci LS3, which is mated to a 4670E transmission. That power is kept in check by a complement of hydroboosted Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes and the whole rig is protected by brand-built custom bumpers and a 4-point roll bar. This Scout also got a new custom paint job across the body, wheels, and even the engine – which matches beautifully with the newly upholstered interior. All told, this stunner is just aching to be taken out for a spin down the California coastline.
