Namibia’s Skeleton Coast earned its name by being littered with scores of shipwrecks accompanied by eerie bones, as a result of whaling operations and seal hunts. For intrepid travelers, the Shipwreck Lodge, inspired by the ships that were made trophies by Namibia’s northern coast, is one of the most unique places to stay on Earth. Thanks to the Natural Selection adventure travel company, you have the opportunity to do just that.

Each of the 10 ensuite shipwreck rooms complements the remarkable sand dunes, placing you in a scene that is mesmerizing and surreal. Besides the wood burning stove, the eight twin or double rooms, along with two family tents, are solar-powered. At the heart of the camp, you’ll fine an equally impressive lounge and restaurant that includes a spacious wraparound deck that has a breathtaking, uninterrupted view across the sand and right to the Atlantic Ocean. Inside the shipwreck cabins you’ll find blue and burgundy furniture made from recycled wood, rope, linen and cotton. Nina Maritz’s architectural team, along with Interior Designer Melanie Van Der Merwe, made sure to be as environmentally friendly as possible, going so far as to use only wooden nails to build each cabin. With rates starting around $750, which include all meals, drinks and activities, you’ll be in for an extraordinary experience.

Purchase: $750
