1979 International Scout II

The overlanders, off-roaders, and adventure cruisers – those are the vehicles that match this generations pace. The most dinged-up jalopies are being wrought into shape and scrubbed-a-dubbed until they’re in salable shape. Such a deep-clean was never necessary, not for this beautifully preserved 1979 International Scout II.

Originally called the International Harvester Scout, the Scout and Scout II models of the 70s were built to harvest grain – and this lovely copper colored Scout II certainly invokes the wheat fields of yesteryear. With a well-aged patina – a crackling paint job that is so lovely and authentic and utterly endearing – this car has its environs to thank for its pickle-like preservation; the dry, humidity-free land of Arizona kept the car rust free, and pristine in the areas that generally fall apart on adventure cars like these – namely, the floors, mounts and rocker panels, which remain all original. Minor updates include the installation of an aluminum radiator, AC compressor and electronic ignition. To interior, though, remains a blast from the past. Plaid upholstery and all. With an original 345ci V8 International Scout Engine and 77,000 miles on its axles, this International Scout II is a near-perfect restoration of a different era.
