The brilliant mind behind works such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell To Arms, For Whom The Bell Tolls, and (of course) The Old Man And The Sea, Ernest Hemingway is undeniably one of the greatest American authors of all time. But he wasn’t just a writer – the man was an adventurer to his very core. From going on safari in Africa, to living amongst some of his greatest peers in Paris, to hunting for Soviet submarines aboard his 38-foot fishing boat, Pilar, in the Caribbean, Hemingway lived a life worth envying. And in spite of his gruesome end, he’s still one of our biggest heroes. It’s with this all-around impressive specimen of a man in mind that we’ve put together this week’s pocket dump. If you ask us, this everyday carry loadout might very well be what you’d find in Hemingway’s pockets were he still alive today.

American Bench Craft Hemingway Journal

Author or not, every man should carry around a pocket notebook in the case that inspiration strikes. And you can do no better than this journal from American Bench Craft. Made in the USA from premium vegetable-tanned leather, it can hold a single memo-sized book – and it comes with a Field Notes brand one already loaded inside of it. Oh yeah, and it’s guaranteed for life.

Inventery Modular Pocket Fountain Pen

If you’re going to have a notebook, you’ll also need something with which to write in it. And we’re pretty sure Inventery’s Modular Pocket Fountain Pen is the perfect companion. With a body made from precision-machined brass, 9 refillable ink cartridges, an interchangeable ballpoint tip, and a touchscreen stylus tip, it’s got all your writing needs covered.

Purchase: $135

The James Brand County Knife

This heirloom-quality folding knife harkens back to the kinds of camp blades we had as a kid. But with its walnut and Sanvik steel construction, it’s of a much higher quality. It’s also a slipjoint – meaning it doesn’t lock open – so it’s perfect for carrying in places with restrictions against locking blades. And at 6″ and 1.9 ounces, it’s an excellent addition to even the most crowded pockets.

Purchase: $150

Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Watch

Limited to just 1,000 examples, this incredibly tough bronze watch is made to stay reliably on your wrist through thick and thin – even if you like to dive up to 300 meters underwater. It also features a sapphire crystal, a handsome top-grain leather band, and is fitted with an anti-shock device. And the exhibition back is a nice touch, too.
