For decades, golf was viewed as a stuffy and genteel sport, fit for plaid-wearing, cigar smoking septuagenarians. But a new wave of golfers has taken the reins from the old, and they value their performance over the rules of the ruling class. Decorum has traditionally taken precedence over comfort, and that can lead to a hampered performance. How can you swing a golf club fluidly if you’re wearing uncomfortable, inflexible shoes? Nike asked the same question, and their exciting answer flies in the face of golf’s cobbling conventions: it’s their radical new Flyknit Racer Golf Shoe.

Nike’s super light-weight flyknit fabric allows for ultimate mobility, so that golfers can turn gyroscopically on their ankles as they swing, without feeling restricted by rigid leather. The Flyknit Racer shoe was released by Nike in 2013, offering a cloth-like comfort for runners. Modifications to the original running shoe include golf-specific traction on the bottom, toe and heel-enforced support, and the nike golf logo stitched onto the heel tab. Nike has transformed the stodgy, uninspired golf shoe of Judge Elihu Smails, into an athletic cleat for the new guard of golfers.
