When a brand becomes an referential benchmark for excellence, i.e. calling a product the “Rolls Royce of” whatever, there can be a tendency to become complacent. Rolls Royce is avoiding the trap of stagnation by continuing to reach higher, as evidenced by their innovative new all-terrain SUV, the Cullinan.

The Cullinan is not the first Luxury all-terrain SUV to be on the market, but RR is determined to keep their brand synonymous for “best” in the global idiom. The 2019 Cullinan is a careful step in a new direction, with no corners cut – though the front end and D-pillar will have the same boxy contours that we’re used to from Rolls Royce. Still smooth, the Cullinan is definitely painted with a heavier stroke than their more ethereal, pure luxe vehicles like the Phantom. Though more rugged and purposeful, the Cullinan still retains some vestiges of the easy life, like a cushy leather interior, and the traditional suicide doors. New chassis technology and an aluminium spaceframe help establish the trademark glide of a Rolls Royce upon leaving the asphalt. The elongated front end houses a 6.75-liter, twin-turbocharged V12 engine, generating 563 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. Luxury and strength meet in the middle with the Cullinan, the Rolls Royce of all-terrain SUVs.
