The 1967 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake is the quintessential embodiment of the American muscle car. Sadly, it never made it to the main roads, and was left to gather dust as an unrealized, dream. But thanks to a new continuation series from Shelby, that deterred dream will come to fruition, with an exclusive limited run.

Though it’s called a “continuation car,” this Shelby muscle car never actually left the lot. The Super Snake continuation originates from a missed opportunity. The original “Super Snake” was engineered for high-speed tire testing by Goodyear in 1967. That Fastback, like Steve McQueen’s Bullitt, was one of a kind – but Carroll Shelby and Shelby field sales manager Don McCain wanted to bring this superior model to the rest of the world. McCain tried to orchestrate a deal to produce a limited run of 50 more, but the deal never fructified. Now, Shelby is fulfilling their dream, by reproducing a run of 10 Shelby Super Snake Continuation cars. Built out from donated 1967 Ford Mustangs, the cars will all receive a Shelby serial number, a plaque on the dashboards bearing the autographs of the cars’ forefathers, Shelby and McCain, and a 427-cubic-inch V8 engine that generates 550 HP to equal the power of its progenitor vehicle. Slated for a limited release nearly 50 years after its conception, it begs the question: is the 1967 Ford Shelby Super Snake an old, new car? Or a new, old car? A restoration? A replica? Whatever the case, it’s already a classic.

Purchase: $250,000
