Making its world debut last week at the New York International Auto Show, Volkswagen’s Atlas Tanoak pickup truck concept is proof that the German manufacturing giant is looking to grab a slice of the American truck-obsessed market.

On the surface, the concept is eerily similar another best-selling foreign short-bed pickup. However, under the hood is a respectable 3.6 liter V6 capable of an output of 276 HP and 266 lb-ft of torque. Power is provided down via an eight-speed automatic transmission and their 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system with Active Control. It’s built upon Volkswagen’s award-winning MQB platform, boasts fully digitalized instrumentation and controls, sport seating, a movable cargo rail of the bed, and looks slated for production at their Chattanooga, Tennessee location here in the near future.
