While Toyota has gradually looked to transition to more electric and hybrid vehicles, they stuck to their guns in making their latest utility vehicle. Though the rather austere interior might lead some to call the design “bare bones,” when we look at the Toyota Land Cruiser Utility, all we see is muscle.

The Land Cruiser Utility Commercial is through-and-through a workman’s vehicle, built to tow up to three tons (braked) and carry a payload of up to 1,667 lbs. Basically a bolt-bolstered and stripped down version of the Commercial model, the Utility Commercial has the same 10-member high-tensile steel ladder-frame chassis as its frame, but it abandons frivolous creature comforts like backseats in favor of a caged loadbay that’s so spacious it could probably hold another Toyota. Seventeen-inch steel wheels ensure that the van can conquer the most rugged terrains, motivated by a 2.8-liter D-4D turbodiesel engine that generates 175hp and 309lb-ft of torque. The spartan aesthetic of the Land Cruiser Utility won’t deter anyone looking for a vehicle that’s bad to the bone.
