Inspired by tiger claws, karambit knives were originally created as farming tools by the Minangkabau people of West Sumatra. Since then, they have taken on a life of their own – seeing applications in both the military and civilian venues. As pocket folders, however, they have one fairly large design problem: users’ fingers get in the way of deployment and closure. But this dangerous issue has been done away with by the award-winning Caswell Morphing Karambit.

Comprised of just five primary pieces and fasteners, this innovative knife utilizes a ‘sliding’ motion (as opposed to folding) to deploy the blade. That way, even with your fingers wrapped securely around the handle, you can extend the cutting edge safely and quickly. It even has a handy locking mechanism to keep it safely deployed during use. The blade of the Morphing Karambit is crafted from high quality CPM 3V with a tungsten DLC finish; the handle is built from sturdy aluminum; and the “zero-profile” pocket clip is crafted from titanium. This incredibly brilliant and unique EDC knife will retail for $650, but can be pre-ordered on Kickstarter now for just $450.
