Back in 2012, Nike rolled out something pretty exciting onto the world stage; Flyknit. No one had ever seen anything like it before. It was lightweight, breathable, and formed to an athlete’s foot like no other. The new technology created serious waves, influencing not only the athletic market, but high-end fashion brands and even makers of hiking boots. Now, 6 years later, Nike’s rolling out an updated version of the world-changing fabric with their Nike Mercurial Superfly and Vapor 360 cleats.

The upper on these new soccer cleats isn’t really an upper. The new Flyknit fabric wraps around the entirety of the foot, eliminating the soleplate entirely – and blurring the distinction between an ‘upper’ and outsole. Instead of using a soleplate, the shoe has a lighter chassis. That chassis can be more finely tuned than is traditional thanks to computation programing – meaning that athletes will get the perfect fit every time with little to no slippage. Both cleats are set to roll out the 14th of February, though we expect to see it on more shoes moving forward.
