OK we’ll be honest. We don’t really think of L.L. Bean as being on the forefront of camping and hiking technology. The over 100 year old brand is best known for producing American made classics like their Bean Boot and comfortable basics for men and women. So imagine our surprise when we learned L.L. Bean had released an Ultralight Sleeping Bag using NASA-developed insulating technology.

These new sleeping bags – both the 20 and 35 degree rated models – feature a special PrimaLoft Gold insulation with Cross Core technology that manages to keep hikers warm without adding weight. In addition to being both lightweight and toasty, the material insulates even while compressed and is water resistant. But this sleeping bag is more than just its insulating tech. It also features a ripstop nylon shell, a footbox with extra room, and comes with a stuff-sack for easy traveling.
