Floating Villa By Van Ommeren Atchitecten

The cheekily named ‘Haarlem Shuffle’ is not the kind of thing that comes to mind when one thinks of houseboats. A sleek, modernist villa set on water, this home located near the Netherland city of Haarlem, intentionally breaks the mold.

Wooden cladding framed by aluminum gives this home a unique, stand-out look to it while also drawing its large windows into contrast. Both the upstairs and downstairs portion of this floating villa boast ample natural light, and a clear view out over the Spaarne river. From the street, the home looks inconspicuous with its concealed doors and simple cladding. But more than just sporting a unique, attractive look, this houseboat make use of solar panels to keep it energy neutral.
