Following a similar release back in 2016, this is the third non-vintage release of a 40-year-old Macallan expression from the Speyside distillery. According to Macallan, this expression is the “pinnacle” of their Sherry Oak range, resting for four decades in a combination of three casks.

Thanks to this intriguing combination: consisting of a European oak sherry butt, European oak sherry hogshead, and American oak sherry butt casks, the Macallan 40-Years-Old Scotch is a beautifully rich and complex whisky. It pours with hues of deep copper, offers a nose full of sultanas, ginger and wood spice, a palate that opens with soft cinnamon spices transitioning to notes of figs and dates, and a lengthy finish complete with wintery cinnamon spices. Only 465 examples are slated to be released worldwide, bottled at 44% ABV, with a mere 70 making it to the US market.

Purchase: $9,000
