When it comes to snowboarding and skiing goggles, one size does not fit all. While one tint may be perfect for a sunny day on the slopes, that same setup can prove too dark on overcast days and vice versa. For a while now, eyewear brands have been trying to address this issue by developing eye-protection with interchangeable lenses, or even films to apply to your goggles. This year, however, SPY has upped the ante with their ACE EC One Lens goggles.

Rather than relying on an interchangeable system, these new lenses from the Southern-California based eyewear brand utilize electrochromic technology to cycle through different tints. Press a button on the goggles and an electric impulse is sent to a special filament that’s sandwiched between two lenses, changing its opacity. As a result, everyone from skiers to snowmobilers can cycle through three different tints without so much as taking their gloves off. And no worries about the batteries on this thing. Once it gets a low charge, it alerts the wearer so they can change the tint to their preference, and then take off the pack to charge it. You can look for these starting September of 2018 when they’re expected to retail for around $275.
