Overbuilt, off-road ready versions of base model 4x4s is a growing segment of the truck market globally, with virtually every pickup model made being wrapped in exclusive heavy duty trim. Toyota offers the TRD Pro models Stateside, but for the folks Down Under, the 2018 HiLux Rugged X will be their choice weapon for all-terrain assaults.

The HiLux Rugged X will come equipped with a 2.8-Liter inline four-cylinder turbo diesel the pumps out 175 hp and 330 ft•lbs of torque, enough pep to ensure tons of fun from this pint sized pickup. The underside of the Rugged X will be thoroughly clad in skidplate armor to protect the trucks vitals and dual rock rails assists passenger entry into the lifted cab. The glaring feature of this model is the engine snorkel which will prepare the Rugged X to keep breathing during deep water crossings. Capped off with a sports bar for additional accessories added in the future, this is one tough truck that is ready for a beating.
