Competition is charged up in the electric vehicle space as Chinese manufacturer NIO has released details about their first production vehicle, the ES8, which is set to deliver in 2018. The seven-seater SUV is set to retail for about half the price of the Tesla Model X while retaining all of the features expected from a high end EV.

Two drive motors produce a combined 644 hp, giving the ES8 enough juice to accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds. A well contrived battery system allows the 70 kWh battery to be hand swapped in about three minutes or quick charged in an hour, with a full charge being capable of 220 miles of range. NIO also jammed a slew of sensors, cameras, and radars onboard to monitor the vehicle and control its advanced driver assistance, dubbed NIO Pilot. Keep your eyes peeled for this new entrance to full electric market as the ES8 is planned on landing stateside in 2020.
